BIDDEFORD, Maine – #11 University of New England rolled to a 10-2 victory over Becker in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) men's ice hockey action at the Harold Alfond Forum on Saturday night.
The Nor'easters opened with three goals in the first period.
Jimmy Elser began the scoring with his first of two on the night.
Ryan Burr followed midway through the period with a power play goal.
Jake Fuss scored his first of the season in the final minute of the frame.
Brett Mecrones made the score 4-0 early in the second period. The Hawks broke through at the 14:33 mark of the second on a power-play score by Joshua Sanchez. Elser added his second of the night just under a minute later.
Tyler Seltenreich and
Ryan Bloom completed the period as the Nor'easters led 7-1 after two.
Phillip Garcia put in a power play goal for Becker to start the second period. UNE quickly responded as Burr buried his second of the game just 14 second later.
Austin Morgan and
Justin Dixson rounded out the Nor'easter offensive attack.
Mecrones finished with four points on a goal and three assists.
Alex Sheehy and
Jeff Eppright each had two assists.
The Nor'easters nearly doubled the Hawks in shots at 49-25. Grant Martens started in goal for Becker and made 19 saves, allowing five goals. Cody Foster had 20 stops in the relief.
Ben Churchfield made 11 saves for the Nor'easters over the first two periods.
Bryan McGrath had 12 saves in the third.
The 10 goals by the Nor'easters were the most they have scored in a single game since defeating Becker 11-1 on Feb. 20, 2017.
UNE returns to the ice at home on Friday (Nov. 15) against Wentworth at 7 p.m.
