#11 Nor’easters blast Huskies, 7-2

BIDDEFORD, Maine – After falling behind early, #11 University of New England scored seven straight goals to ease past Southern Maine 7-2 in men's hockey action at the Harold Alfond Forum on Saturday.
 
Seven Nor'easters (7-2-0) tallied multi-point games, led by Ryan Bloom with two goals and an assist. Brett Mecrones also scored two goals. Derek Mecrones, Liam Neuman, Chris Jones and Tyler Seltenreich each had two helpers.
 
Maverick Lynes gave the Huskies a 1-0 lead 10:57 into play, but it was all UNE from there. Derek Mecrones found his brother ahead of the defense on a 4-on-4 to tie the game [Watch]. Bloom put in a power-play goal with two seconds left to put the Nor'easters in front 2-1 after one. [Watch]
 
Austin Morgan raced past the defense and scored on the right side to extend the lead to 3-1 to start the second period [Watch]. UNE tallied its next three goals within a span on just 43 seconds as it built a 6-1 advantage.  Chad Merrell struck first, followed by the second marks of the game by Bloom and Brett Mecrones. Justin Dixson caused a turnover in the offensive zone and scored a short-hander off a give-and-go with Seltenreich with 10:56 left in the second. [Watch]
 
Southern Maine (2-6-1) added a goal in the third as Adam Withers redirected a shot from Brock Padgham.
 
Shots favored UNE 27-15 as the Nor'easters allowed just six attempts over the final two periods. Tate Sproxton made eight saves in the opening period and Bryan McGrath picked up the victory with five saves in the last 40 minutes. Anthony D'Aloisio and Paul Leger each made 15 stops for the Huskies. D'Aloisio earned the loss with five goals against.
