Nor'easters blank Salem St., 5-0, to remain unbeaten

SALEM, Mass. – The University of New England women's hockey team improved to 5-0-1 on the season with a 5-0 victory over Salem State on Tuesday night.
 
Meghan Hamilton found Jessie Scott for a power play goal to get the scoring started for the Nor'easters at the 7:06 mark of the first period. Tatum Gietl extended the advantage to 2-0 later in the first.
 
The Nor'easters added two more goals in the second period. Jessica Tolzman tallied her first of the season off helpers from Shannon Upton and Maeve Crehan. Marykate Drinkwater made it 4-0 with just over a minute remaining in the second. Kenady Nevicosi added her second assist of the night on the goal, and Alyssa Roof tallied one as well. Hamilton got on the board for the second game in a row early in the third, from Kyra Yu and Avery Lutrzykowski.
 
Julia Benjamin made 19 saves in the victory and Chelsey Caron added four stops as UNE recorded its third shutout of the season. Sarah Plourde (21) and Dana Smullen (3) combined for 24 saves for the Vikings.
 
UNE returns to the ice in Colonial Hockey Conference (CHC) action on Friday (Dec. 6) at Salve Regina at 2 p.m.
