#11 Nor’easters blank Gulls, 4-0

BEVERLY, Mass. Ben Churchfield made a season-high 39 saves to help #11 University of New England to a 4-0 victory over Endicott in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action at Raymond J. Bourque Arena on Saturday afternoon.
 
Chad Merrell tallied his first-career goal just 3:25 into the game to put the Nor'easters in front for good. Jared Christy helped on the opening tally. Chris Jones added a power play score off assists from Ryan Burr and Ryan Bloom with 14 seconds left in the period to give UNE a 2-0 lead.
 
Early in the second period, Justin Dixson found Jeff Eppright to extend the lead to 3-0. Brent Hill added a late third period goal for the Nor'easters. Alex Sheehy assisted on the final goal.
 
Shots were close over the first two periods as the Gulls led 31-30, but UNE dominated the final frame to a tune of 22-8 and led overall 52-39. Churchfield picked up his second shutout of the season. Conor O'Brien had 48 stops in the loss.
 
UNE returns to the ice on Tuesday, Nov. 26 at Bowdoin at 7 p.m.
