NORTHFIELD, Vt. – The #2 Norwich University men's ice hockey team scored three goals in the first period on its way to a 4-0 victory over #9 University of New England in season-opening action at Kreitzberg Arena on Saturday evening.
Taeron Lewis put the Cadets on the board with 4:23 to play in the opening period. Noah Williams and Connor Swystun assisted on the goal. Felix Brassard added back-to-back power play goals just 48 seconds apart to give Norwich a 3-0 lead after a period. Coby Down helped on each of the goals.
UNE outshot Norwich 10-8 in the second period and had three power play opportunities, but was unable to get back into the game. Ryan Boucher extended the lead out to 4-0 with a one-timer off a pass from Williams with 11:56 left in regulation.
Shots were even at 25 each and Tom Aubrun turned all of them away to earn the shutout victory.
Ben Churchfield made 21 saves on the night.
The Nor'easters begin Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) play on the road Friday, Nov. 8 at Becker at 7 p.m.
