UNE enters postseason with 4-0 win over Scots

BIDDEFORD, Maine -- The University of New England scored all of its goals in the opening 23 minutes to pick up a 4-0 Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) triumph over Gordon College in the regular-season finale on Saturday afternoon (Nov. 2) at UNE Blue Bolt Field.

Grace Grenier got things going for the Nor'easters (11-9, 10-2 CCC) in the 9th minute, and Jillian Lachapelle made it 2-0 in the 18th minute, scoring off a feed from Kendra MacDonald. With the assist, MacDonald became the sixth UNE player to reach 100 points in her career (39 goals, 22 assists).

Lachapelle struck again just 82 seconds later, with a pass from Nicole Grady. Julia Steeves then finished a rebound off her own shot at the 22:36 mark to complete the day's offense.

Liz Sargent and Julia Gordon each made one stop between the pipes for the Nor'easters, who conluded the match with a 17-6 advantage in shot attempts. Katelyn Pelletier had seven saves for the Fighting Scots, who wrap up the year with an overall record of 7-13 (3-9 CCC).

UNE is now slated to host Salve Regina University in the semifinal round of the league championship, which will take place on Thursday (5 p.m.). [Interactive Bracket] The Nor'easters swept the Seahawks in their two meetings this year with scores of 7-2 and 4-0.
