Nor’easters skate through Bison, 4-2

BIDDEFORD, Maine
– The University of New England women's ice hockey team skated to a 4-2 victory over Colonial Hockey Conference (CHC) foe Nichols on Saturday night at the Harold Alfond Forum.
 
Tatum Gietl created a turnover in the offensive zone and scored on a one-on-one with 5:55 to play in the second period to put the Nor'easters in front for good at 3-2 [Watch].
 
The game looked to be all UNE in the opening period as a goal by Jessie Scott gave the host a 1-0 lead [Watch]. Kenady Nevicosi batted in a score with just two seconds left in the period to give the Nor'easters a 2-0 advantage at intermission [Watch].
 
The Bison stormed back with two quick goals to start the second. Kaci Johnson put home a score just 2:27 into the period. Just under two minutes later Mel McAleer tied it at 2-2 with her third goal of the season. Gietl grabbed the momentum back for UNE with her late winner.
 
Meghan Hamilton found Kyra Yu with a cross-ice pass for a score to put the game out of reach with 3:14 left to play [Watch]. Hamilton finished with two assists on the night.
 
Julia Benjamin made 27 saves in goal for the Nor'easters. Abby Bassett had 24 stops for the Bison. The Nor'easters dominated the faceoff circle to a tune of 36-15.
 
UNE is back at home on Friday (Nov. 22) against Becker at 4 p.m.
