#11 Nor’easters shutout Wentworth, 5-0

BIDDEFORD, Maine – #11 University of New England earned a 5-0 victory over Wentworth in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) men's hockey action on Friday evening at the Harold Alfond Forum.
 
Jeff Eppright launched a wrist shot from the left circle past Leopards' goaltender Ryan Bonnvie 5:47 into the opening period to give the Nor'easters a 1-0 lead [Watch]. Later in the period, Brendan Donohue found Austin Morgan with a pass in front of the net for a one-timer to extend the UNE advantage [Watch].
 
The scoring continued for the Nor'easters to start the second as Brent Hill put back a rebound off a shot by Dimitris Jones just 26 seconds into the period [Watch]. Alden Weller launched a long pass off the boards ahead to Jared Christy minutes later and the freshman scored his first-career goal to make the score 4-0 and force a goaltending change by Wentworth [Watch].
 
Brett Mecrones buried the puck from close range at the 12:47 mark of the third period for the final Nor'easter goal [Watch].
 
Ben Churchfield made 20 saves to pick up the shutout in goal. Bonnvie had nine stops before he was replaced. Thomas Draper allowed one goal and made 20 saves in relief.
 
The teams return to action tomorrow at 4 p.m. at Allied Veterans Rink in Everett, Mass.
