GORHAM, Maine -- The University of New England men's golf squad finished 3rd out of six in the two-day University of Southern Maine Fall Classic, which ended Monday (Oct. 7) at Gorham Country Club.
The host Huskies cruised to the title, backing up their opening 303 by firing a 294 in Round 2 to settle on a 36-hole total of 597. Castleton University (615) [322-293] used a strong second day to jump the Nor'easters (631) [306-325], while Saint Joseph's College of Maine (642) [324-318] took fourth place.
UNE's final-day score came from a
Marcus Costa 74, a
Tom Higgins 75, a
Hunter Drew 80, and a
Rob Prentiss 96. Costa and Higgins shared 4th place individually in the field of 30 with an overall total of 150; Drew posted 158 and Prentiss 181.
USM's Tristan Dundas captured medalist honors with a score of 145 [75-70], two ahead of Castleton's Jacob Erwin (147), who carded the round of the tournament on Monday with a 4-under-par 67.
The Nor'easters will close out the fall season in two weeks (Oct. 20-21) on Cape Cod at the New England Intercollegiate Golf Association (NEIGA) Championship.
