Nor'easters cruise past Gordon, 5-1

WENHAM, Mass. -- The University of New England chalked up a 5-1 Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) field hockey victory over Gordon College on Saturday (Oct. 5) at the Brigham Athletic Complex.

Winners of five in their last six, the Nor'easters (6-6) now stand 5-1 in league action at the midway mark of the conference slate.

UNE received goals from five different players, starting with Lindsay Bruns in the 7th minute. Julia Steeves doubled the lead just before the end of the first quarter, converting a feed from Alexa Koenig.

Bruns setup Kendra MacDonald in the 20th minute to give the visitors a 3-0 cushion at the half.

Just 36 seconds after Cara Goudie put the Fighting Scots on the board in the 3rd, Reanna Boulay notched a penalty stroke for the Nor'easters. Haylee Angster finished a pass from Koenig to complete the day's scoring prior to the final frame.

Liz Sargent got the goalie decision in 45 minutes of work for UNE. Julia Altman made nine saves for Gordon (4-7, 1-4 CCC), which was out-shot 20-3.

The Nor'easters return home to face No.17 Colby College on Tuesday (6 p.m.).Â
