Endicott slips by UNE, 2-0

Statistics

BEVERLY, Mass. -- Sydney Poulin scored goals in the 2nd and 4th quarters to lead Endicott College over the University of New England, 2-0, in a battle between the top field hockey teams in the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) on Tuesday night (Oct. 22) at North Field.

The Gulls (13-4, 9-0 CCC) have come out on top in their last nine contests, which includes two results against the Nor'easters (9-8, 8-2 CCC), following a 2-1 overtime decision in Biddeford three weeks ago.

Poulin opened the scoring with a drive on a penalty corner play at 4:40 left on the clock before halftime. Abby Carter and Lilia Smith assisted on the goal.

UNE had all four of the corners in the 3rd, along with a 6-2 advantage in shots, but a pair of defensive saves from Endicott's Emily Graham kept the visitors from tying things up.

Poulin batted home a feed from Kristen McCarthy in the 48th minute to provide some insurance, which was almost necessary if not for a sliding stop by EC goalie Taylor Farrin four minutes later.

Farrin accounted for four saves in the match, one more than her counterpart from UNE, Liz Sargent. The Gulls ended with a slight edge in shots, 13-11, while the Nor'easters had double the corner situations (10-5).

UNE is scheduled to visit Salve Regina University (5-4 CCC) on Saturday, and then turn around to host No.7 Williams College on Sunday.
