BRISTOL, R.I. -- The University of New England women's swimming team battled to a fourth-place showing at the Roger Williams University Invitational on Saturday (Oct. 19).
Following the host Hawks (651 points) in the final standings was the University of Massachusetts-Dartmouth (236.5), Regis College (234), the Nor'easters (219.5), and Clark University (214) in the field of nine squads.
Haley Griffin claimed UNE's highest individual finish with a 4th place in the 100-free (58.46) that was just 1.16 seconds off the pace, and
Melissa Jakubowski took 6th in the same race (59.42). In the 100-back, Griffin (7th; 1:08.65) joinedÂ
McKenna Riley (6th; 1:07.92) as double-digit point-earners, whileÂ
Olivia Roy (9th; 1:09.53) was close behind.
Maggie Miller had the next-best showing for the Nor'easters, sharing 5th in the 50-free (27.15).Â
Mikayla Sargent later touched the wall in 7th during the 100-breast (1:17.41).
Two of UNE's groups were 2nd in their respective events on the day, with the combination of Griffin, Riley, Miller, and Jakubowski registering a 1:48.42 in the 200-free relay, and the team of Griffin,
Haleigh Kology, Riley, and Jakubowski going for 3:58.65 in the 400-free relay.
The Nor'easters visit Saint Joseph's College of Maine on Friday.
