Jillian Lachapelle scored twice as the University of New England built a three-goal lead through 11 minutes, on the way to a 4-1 Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) field hockey triumph over Western New England University on Saturday afternoon (Oct. 19) at UNE Blue Bolt Field.
The Nor'easters won for the third straight outing, improving to 9-7 on the year and 8-1 in league matches.
Lachapelle finished a cross from
Julia Steeves just 2:02 into the contest to get the hosts on the board.
Reanna Boulay doubled the margin in the 10th minute, lifting a feed from
Grace Grenier over the crowd in front and under the crossbar. Lachapelle struck again 52 seconds later, and
Kendra MacDonald pushed the spread to 4-0 in the 27th minute.
Liz Sargent didn't face a shot in the first half of action for UNE, and
Julia Gordon recorded two saves during the final 30 minutes. The Nor'easters had comfortable advantages in shots (18-3) and penalty corners (10-1).
The Golden Bears (7-8, 3-6 CCC) broke through with 1:20 remaining, as Ali Martin finished a corner insert from Jacqueline Clark.
Lexie Hemstock and Laura Dion each totaled three saves in the WNEU cage.
UNE heads for Endicott College (8-0 CCC) on Tuesday. The Gulls took the earlier meeting (Oct. 2) between the teams in overtime, 2-1.
