BIDDEFORD, Maine -- Julia Steeves redirected a drive by Reanna Boulay into the back of the net with 2:06 gone in double overtime to lift the University of New England field hockey squad over Roger Williams University, 2-1, in a Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) match Wednesday afternoon (Oct. 16) at UNE Blue Bolt Field.

The Nor'easters are back above the .500 mark for the first time since the opener, now 8-7 overall and 7-1 in league action. The Hawks slip back to 9-6 on the year, and 4-4 in CCC dates.

Following a penalty corner play where RWU goalie Callie Flanagan denied a blast from Boulay, the hosts were awarded another insert and shifted the angle of attack to get Steeves into the middle. Her deflection up over Flanagan's pads on the ensuing shot was goal number four on the season.

Flanagan racked up 11 saves to keep her side in it, as the Nor'easters amassed a 29-3 advantage in shots and were up 13-2 in corners.

The teams exchanged 1st-quarter goals for all the scoring during regulation time. UNE struck first -- after just 98 seconds -- as Alexa Koenig tipped home a shot by Lindsay Bruns. The Hawks countered in the 11th minute, when Hannah Palmer slid a pass along the endline for Brooke Cenatiempo to finish in the crease.

Liz Sargent posted one save for the Nor'easters, who have now won all 15 meetings against Roger Williams.

UNE is slated to entertain Western New England University on Saturday (1 p.m.).
