BIDDEFORD, Maine -- Sarah Leonard captured three events to pace Regis College (Mass.) in a 142-118 women's swimming result against the University of New England in the mutual season-opener on Saturday afternoon (Oct. 12) at the Campus Center Pool.
After Leonard's contributions in the 50-free (26.72), 50-back, and 100-back (1:05.27), the Pride received two wins apiece in support from Thalia Bowie, Kyleigh Boatwright, and Alexa Lancisi. Bowie topped the 500-free and 1,000-free, Boatwright touched first in the 200-free (2:08.78) and 100-IM (1:07.17), and Lancisi claimed the 50-fly (29.50) along with the 100-fly (1:05.25).
Mikayla Sargent notched a pair of victories for the Nor'easters, taking the 50-breast (33.80) and 100-breast (1:15.44) ahead of Regis' Julia Burke both times. She was also second to Boatwright in the 100-IM.
Haley Griffin secured the other solo first-place for the hosts in the 100-free (57.46), finishing in front of Boatwright.
Melissa Jakubowski was edged by Boatwright in the closest margin of the day in the 200-free (2:09.20; -0.42).
Maggie Miller gathered second-place points in both the 50-free (27.32; -0.60) and 50-fly (30.09; -0.59).
Leonard, Burke, Lancisi, and Boatwright topped the 200-medley relay by less than two seconds to start the meet for Regis. UNE assembled Griffin,
Haleigh Kology,
McKenna Riley, and Jakubowski to close with the 200-free relay win.
The Nor'easters head to the Roger Williams University Invitational next Saturday.
