UNE grabs 2nd at Runnin' Monks Invitational

STANDISH, Maine -- The University of New England men's cross country squad placed 2nd out of the eight competing institutions at the Runnin' Monks Invitational on Saturday afternoon (Oct. 12).

Bates College had seven of the top 10 individuals to post a winning score of 28 and best the total of 75 by the Nor'easters. Thomas College and the hosts, Saint Joseph's College, shared third at 97.

Chris DeYoung paced UNE with a 12th-place showing, finishing the 8K course in a time of 28:40. Donovan Duffy (15th; 29:07), Xander Vitarelli (16th; 29:10), and Nolan Alexander (17th; 29:11) crossed the line in rapid succession shortly thereafter, and Alec Walker capped the team score by registering 21st in the field of 83 runners (29:29).

Thomas' Jarrod Ottman was top runner on the day by clocking a 27:06.

The Nor'easters are off to Western New England University next Saturday.
