PLYMOUTH, N.H. – The University of New England women's ice hockey team defeated Plymouth State University, 3-1, to open its weekend series on Friday night at Hanaway Rink.
Katie Babineau had a goal and assist for the Nor'easters (11-2-1) as the visitors jumped in front 2-0 in the first period. She put away an unassisted score at the 8:25 mark and provided a helper on a goal by
Shannon Upton three minutes later.
The Panthers (2-6-3) split the deficit in half with a score by Zoe Killisch early in the second period. But
Kyra Yu tallied an insurance goal two minutes later as the UNE lead went back to two.
For the Nor'easters, who out-shot Plymouth State by a 33-17 margin,
Julia Benjamin stopped 16 shots for the victory. Alex Rajsigl had 30 saves on the night for the PSU.
Both teams are back on the ice Saturday at 2 p.m.
