BIDDEFORD, Maine – The SUNY Canton women's ice hockey team earned a 4-2 victory over the University of New England at the Harold Alfond Forum on Saturday afternoon to move to the top of the Colonial Hockey Conference (CHC) standings.
The Kangaroos (9-7-3, 4-2-0 CHC) jumped out to a 2-0 lead after the first period on goals by Brittany Miner and Sarah Kosnaskie.
Tatum Gietl trimmed the deficit to 2-1 with her eighth score of the season.
Meghan Hamilton found Gietl just in front of the left circle for the goal. [

Ashley Gillies put the lead back to two goals as she connected for a power-play score midway through the second period. Breanna Bedborough made it 4-1 on another power-play goal with 3:08 to go in the third.
Julianne Sheehan added a late score for the Nor'easters, her team-leading 13
th of the season, with 47 seconds remaining. [

UNE was unable to take advantage of its nine power-play chances on the afternoon and was outshot 27-22 overall. Brooke Susac stopped 20 shots for SUNY Canton.
Julia Benjamin made 23 saves for the Nor'easters.
