Suffolk blanks UNE, 2-0

BIDDEFORD, Maine – The Suffolk University women's ice hockey team topped the University of New England, 2-0, to open a weekend series on Friday night at the Harold Alfond Forum.
 
Following a scoreless first period, Tess Adams provided what proved to be the deciding tally with her team-leading ninth goal of the season 3:48 into the second. Shana Cote and Grace Scholz assisted on the play.
 
Jesse Kennedy added an empty net goal for the Rams (9-5-1) in the final minute of the third.
 
Despite the outcome, UNE (12-3-1) held a 32-25 advantage in shots on the night. Kristen Caporusso recorded her sixth shutout of the year with 32 saves. Julia Benjamin had 23 stops for the Nor'easters.
 
The teams will skate again on Saturday at 4 p.m.
