CAMBRIDGE, Mass. -- Devon Goetz notched both goals as No.11 Massachusetts Institute of Technology remained unbeaten with a 2-1 win over the University of New England field hockey team on Saturday (Sep. 8) at Jack Barry Field.
The Engineers (4-0) took the lead in the 6th minute when Laura Chen found Goetz for her sixth goal of the year. But before halftime, the Nor'easters (0-3) drew even on the scoreboard as
Julia Steeves netted her first collegiate tally.
Goetz then came up with the deciding marker in the 44th minute, beating the goalie in a one-on-one situation.
For the game, UNE out-shot MIT by a 15-13 margin, and had a 10-8 edge in penalty corners. Grace Moore turned in eight saves for the hosts, while her counterpart,
Liz Sargent, logged six stops.
The Nor'easters are slated to visit the nation's top-ranked squad, Middlebury College, on Sunday (12 p.m.).
