HARTFORD, Conn. -- Chandler Solimine factored in three goals to help No.18 Trinity College (Conn.) to a 5-0 field hockey result against the University of New England on Sunday afternoon (Sep. 30) at Sheppard Field.
The Bantams (6-2) are the fourth nationally-ranked squad to upend the Nor'easters (6-5), who had captured six straight outings coming into the match.
Solimine's only goal of the day opened the scoring in the 12th minute on a penalty corner situation. Kendall Brown doubled the margin in the 25th minute to make it 2-0 at the break.
Trinity kept applying pressure in the 2nd period, with goals by Nicole Quinlan (43rd minute), Alison Slowe (56th), and Caroline Fisher (57th). The hosts finished with large advantages in shot attempts (29-5) and corners (12-2).
Liz Sargent logged a personal-best 13 saves for UNE, and was aided by a defensive stop by
Marge Gardiner. On the other end, Lori Berger turned in one save for the Bantams.
The Nor'easters (5-0 CCC) will welcome Endicott College (5-0 CCC) to UNE Blue Bolt Field on Tuesday (4 p.m.) with first place in the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) standings on the line. The Gulls are currently receiving votes just outside the national poll.
