GORHAM, Maine -- The University of New England men's golf squad placed third at the modified-format Southern Maine Cup on Friday (Sep. 28) at Gorham Country Club.

The annual event takes a break from the traditional scoring of collegiate golf, as pairs of teammates compete in an 18-hole round with three sections -- six holes in the format of best ball, six holes of scramble, and six holes of alternate shot.

Michael Rich and Austin Morgan combined to shoot a 3-under-par 68 for the Nor'easters, who totaled 214 as a team. Garrett Krisko and Dylan Andrews recorded a round of 71 in support, and Seth Semmelrock with Colin Casamento added a 75.

The hosts claimed the title with a score of 203, as Greg Kalagias and Ryan paced USM with a tournament-record 64. Saint Joseph's College of Maine (209) and the University of Maine-Farmington (226) finished in second and fourth-place, respectively.

UNE returns to the links on Thursday for the Mariner Invitational hosted by Maine Maritime Academy at Augusta Country Club.
