BIDDEFORD, Maine -- Elizabeth Ettridge netted her fifth goal of the contest with 3:40 remaining to give Bridgewater State University a 10-9 women's lacrosse victory over the University of New England on Friday afternoon (Mar. 23) at the Big Blue Turf.
Ettridge helped pull the Bears (4-2) out of an early-2nd half deficit, pocketing the first two in a three-goal run during the initial portion of the frame to go up 8-6.
The Nor'easters (3-4) answered with scores by
Keara Dwyer and
Molly Camelo, but Gabby Reinold put BSU back on top at 9-8 with 7:13 left. In spite of being a player down, UNE drew level (9-9) at the 5:21 mark on a goal by
Anna Stowell.
Both sides had one shot saved, and committed one turnover, in the waning minutes as the one-goal spread went final.
Ettridge collected five draw controls to go with her five tallies; the first of which put the junior at the 100-goal milestone. Victoria McDonough notched three goals, two assists, and three draws in support for Bridgewater State, while Lisa Moynihan grabbed the team's other four draws and had four caused turnovers. Hayley Barner totaled six saves.
Stowell and Camelo paced the Nor'easters with three goals apiece.
Mackenzie Collins and
Casey Conwell matched Dwyer with one goal; Dwyer and Conwell each had two assists.
Jolena Lampron recorded seven caused turnovers, and
Maritza Nary denied nine shots defending the cage.
The difference was never more than two goals the entire way. UNE led 2-1 in the 1st period before three in-a-row by the Bears established a two-goal cushion (4-2). It was 5-3 with 1:56 on the clock prior to halftime, but Conwell struck just 12 seconds later off a feed from Stowell, and then Dwyer setup Camelo to even things (5-5) at the break.
The Nor'easters are scheduled to open up Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action on Tuesday (7 p.m.) at Endicott College.
