Nor'easters roll to win at Castleton, 16-7

CASTLETON, Vt. -- The University of New England dialed up six straight goals in a span of 10 minutes during the middle of the 1st half to distance itself from Castleton University on the way to a 16-7 women's lacrosse triumph on Monday afternoon (Mar. 12) at Spartan Stadium.

That run ended up as the difference at halftime (9-3), before the Nor'easters notched the initial seven scores of the 2nd stanza to break things wide open.

UNE (2-1) was paced by Keara Dwyer with five goals and two assists. Two goals came from both Mackenzie Collins and Julia Benjamin, while seven others scored once. Korinne Bohunsky and Nichole Carvalho added assists to their goals; Bohunsky also had team highs of four draw controls and three caused turnovers.

Kyra Taylor picked up a squad-best five ground balls for the visitors. Splitting time in goal for the Nor'easters was Maritza Nary and Taylor Hopkins, who made one and four saves, respectively.

For the Spartans (1-3), Erin Shuttle tallied three goals and one assist, along with four caused turnovers. Emma Best put one in the back of the cage, while collecting eight ground balls, seven draws, and five caused turnovers. Emily Cross contributed a goal and two helpers, and Samantha Hebb logged 10 saves.

UNE is next scheduled for a Wednesday date (3:30 p.m.) at Babson College.
