Beacons get last-second tally to nip Nor'easters, 1-0

BOSTON -- Jane Morrisette fired home a one-timer from the right circle with 20 seconds left in regulation to give the University of Massachusetts-Boston a 1-0 win over the University of New England on Saturday afternoon (Feb. 3) at Barry Ice Rink.

The Beacons (9-10-4, 8-2-2 NEHC) had a flurry of chances in the crease during the waning moments of a scoreless game, but nothing made its way through the pile in front -- which also swallowed up the stick of the UNE goalie. Edy Moritz tracked down the loose puck behind the net and spun it back out to Morrisette for the game-winning shot inside the far post.

Brianna Colucci also registered an assist on the deciding play. Rachel Myette denied all 20 shots that came her way to backstop the result.

Caty Flagg was nearly perfect between the pipes for the Nor'easters (8-8-7, 3-4-5 NEHC), racking up 46 saves.

UNE returns home for the final weekend of the regular-season, which begins Friday (4 p.m.) against Castleton University.
