UNE takes 7th at New England meet

KINGSTON, R.I. -- Kayla Burgess posted three top-4 performances and set three new team for the University of New England women's swimming squad, which placed 7th out of 20 at the 2018 New England Intercollegiate Swimming & Diving Association (NEISDA) Championships that concluded Sunday evening (Feb. 18) at the Tootell Aquatic Center on the campus of the University of Rhode Island.

Simmons College finished the four-day event in the top spot, totaling 1504 points to pass Roger Williams University (1465) down the stretch. Keene State College (1083.5), Westfield State University (796), Eastern Connecticut State University (625.5) rounded out the first five, with Bridgewater State University (516.5) closing strong to edge the Nor'easters (515.5) by just one point.

UNE was recognized with the Steve Locke Sportsmanship Award for the second time in the eight years since its creation. (Updated: 2/23/18 1:00 PM)

The three All-New England efforts by Burgess upped her four-year career count to nine (8 individual, 1 relay). Senior Nicole Robitaille got her first, as did sophomore Taryn Leach.
