PLYMOUTH, N.H. -- Sydney Linnick scored with 13:15 gone in overtime to give No.4 Plymouth State University a 3-2 decision against No.5 University of New England in the quarterfinal-round of the 2018 New England Hockey Conference (NEHC) Women's Ice Hockey Championship on Saturday evening (Feb. 17) at Hanaway Rink.
The teams played nearly 39 minutes knotted at 2-all before the deciding tally, which sends the Panthers (9-13-4) into the NEHCÂ semifinals next Saturday at Norwich University.
UNE wraps up the 2017-18 campaign with an overall mark of 9-10-7.
Brooke Maggy opened the scoring for the hosts, just 1:58 into the match, but the Nor'easters responded before the end of the 1st period on a goal by
Katie Babineau that was assisted by
Annie Mullen.
Though UNE was out-shot 13-4 in the 2nd frame, the visitors took a 2-1 edge with a marker from
Carly Perreault.
Meagan Accardi and
Marykate Drinkwater were credited with assists on the play.
Olivia MacMillian brought Plymouth State back even (2-2) scored on a power-play with 14:20 go in the middle stanza of regulation. Kailey Jacobs picked up her second helper on the goal.
For the Panthers, goalie Emilie Lindqvist (NEHC 2nd Team) had 22 saves and an assist. Between the UNE pipes,
Caty Flagg (NEHC Goaltender of the Year) recorded 33 stops.
