BIDDEFORD, Maine -- Top-ranked Norwich University scored twice on the power-play in the opening period to jumpstart its attack on the way to a 6-0 decision versus the University of New England women's ice hockey team on Saturday afternoon (Feb. 10) at the Harold Alfond Forum as the New England Hockey Conference (CCC) regular-season came to a close.
With the win, the Cadets (21-1-3) complete the NEHCÂ at a perfect 14-0-0 for the top seed in the upcoming postseason championship. The Nor'easters (9-9-7) wind up 4-5-5 in league action, good for fifth-place in the standings. The official tournament pairings will be announced on Sunday.
Amanda Conway and Kim Tiberi took advantage of a 5-on-3 situation in the latter stages of the 1st, before Adrieana Rossini, Nicole Goebel, and Nicole Lorenzo upped the spread to 5-0 in the 2nd frame.
Rossini put in her second during the final stanza to book a four-point outing. Jess Piracini was credited with a team-high three assists for Norwich.
Laurie King made 16 stops for the shutout victory, while her UNE counterpart,
Caty Flagg, racked up 57 saves -- the second-highest single-game total in Nor'easters program history.
Prior to the contest, UNE honored its two seniors (
Annie Mullen and
Kierra Wright) playing in their final regular-season home game.
