BRUNSWICK, Maine –
Julianne Sheehan scored both goals for the University of New England in a 2-1 women's ice hockey victory over Bowdoin College on Saturday afternoon at Watson Arena.
The Nor'easters (10-2-1) rebounded from conceding the opening score to knot things just before the 1st intermission, as Sheehan struck with six seconds remaining in the period.
After a scoreless 2nd frame, Sheehan notched the game-winner on a power-play midway through the 3rd.
Shannon Nadeau and
Marykate Drinkwater assisted on the play.
Julia Benjamin kept the Polar Bears off the board for the final 48 minutes, registering a season-high 37 saves to backstop UNE's first-ever result in four tries of the all-time series. UNE, which has already exceeded its win total from last year, shutout the hosts on all five of their power-play opportunities.
Sophia Lattanzio had 18 saves for Bowdoin (0-7-1), which took a 1-0 lead after Izzi Stoddard found Katie Leininger for a goal at the 11:46 mark of the 1st period.
The Nor'easters are off until Friday, January 4 when they open a weekend series at Plymouth State University. Game time is set for 6 p.m.
