BIDDEFORD, Maine – A power-play goal from Moira Mullaney late in the second period proved to be the difference as Colby College halted the University of New England, 2-1, in women's ice hockey action Tuesday night at the Harold Alfond Forum.
Mullaney's marker came just 2:17 after the Nor'easters (9-2-1) evened things up in the middle frame, as Meaghan Accardi buried a one-timer off a feed from
Shannon Upton behind the cage.
Katie Babineau also registered an assist on the play.
After being out-shot by a 14-7 spread in the second, UNE posted a 9-3 advantage in the third but could not pull level.
Lily von Stade put home a rebound off the crossbar in the first period to put the Mules (3-2-0) in front, 1-0. Lexi Cafiero took the initial shot, and Tay Munson started the sequence bringing the puck out of the defensive zone. Munson also assisted on Mullaney's score.
Cierra San Roman made 27 saves for Colby to pick up the win, while
Julia Benjamin had 26 stops for the Nor'easters.
UNE will play its final game of 2018 on Saturday afternoon at Bowdoin College. Puck drops at 3 p.m.
