MIDDLEBURY, Vt. – The No.11 University of New England men's ice hockey team snapped its three-game skid with a 4-3 win over Johnson & Wales at the Middlebury College Holiday Classic on Sunday afternoon (Dec. 30).

The Nor'easters (8-4-0) took a 2-0 lead after the first period on goals by Tucker Ross and Ryan Bloom. Bloom's marker came with 4.4 seconds left in the frame, redirecting a shot by Chris Jones.

Tyler Seltenreich extended the advantage to 3-0 with a score off a pass from Austin Morgan in the latter part of the second.

Conor Cassidy provided the first goal for the Wildcats to begin the third. UNE answered right back as Seltenreich found Brendan Donohue.

Johnson & Wales (3-9-2) made it interesting down the stretch, after a shorthanded goal by Connor Bechtel made it 4-2 around the middle of the final frame. Graham Day closed the gap to one with 47 seconds remaining, near the end of a 5-on-3 power play with an extra attacker, but UNE was able to hold on for the victory.

Tate Sproxton backstopped the win with 18 saves for UNE, which held a commanding 51-21 advantage in shots. Joe Noonan stopped 47 shots for the Wildcats.

Brett Mecrones, who registered a first-period assist, was named to the All-Tournament Team for the Nor'easters.
