BIDDEFORD, Maine – Tatum Gietl scored a career-high three times to lead the University of New England women's hockey team to a 7-1 victory over Saint Michael's College on Friday night at the Harold Alfond Forum.

Gietl accounted for the only two goals in the second period, just 90 seconds apart, as the Nor'easters (8-1-1) took a 3-1 edge. It marked the first multi-goal game for the junior.

Ally Frechette, Gietl, Bella Crugnale, and Marykate Drinkwater padded the UNE lead in the third.

The Nor'easters conceded the opening goal to the Purple Knights (3-6-0), as Madison Nichols found of the back of the net midway through the first period. Julianne Sheehan brought the hosts even three minutes later, aided by the first of two assists from Jenna Pych.

Julia Benjamin only needed to make 10 saves for the Nor'easters, who out-shot Saint Michael's by a 50-11 tally. Nicole Talcott (38) and Alyssa Cimino (5) combined for 43 saves for the visitors.

The teams return to action at the Forum tomorrow afternoon at 3 p.m.
