Nichols downs #5 UNE, 4-3

HARRISVILLE, R.I.
– The Nichols College men's hockey team earned a 4-3 victory over #5 University of New England in Commonwealth Coast Conference action at Levy Rink in Harrisville, R.I. on Friday night.
 
The Nor'easters (7-2, 5-2 CCC) scored quickly as Tucker Ross found the back of the New just 1:24 into the contest. Tyler Seltenreich and Jeff Eppright provided assists on the early goal. Nichols (6-3, 6-1 CCC) answered back with goals by Ben Campbell and Curtis Carlson to take a 2-1 lead. Dylan Bengtson knotted the game up 2-2 with 6:30 to go in the first.
 
Carlson added his second of the night on a power-play at the 11:24 mark of the second as the Bison led 3-2 through two periods. Nicholas Mangone provided some insurance with a score in the third. Aaron Aragon cut the deficit to one in the final minute with a goal on 6-on-3 advantage for UNE before the Nor'easters ran out of time.
 
Nichols held a 33-24 advantage in shots on the night. Ben Churchfield made 29 saves for UNE, while Brett Epp had 21 stops for the Bison.
 
UNE returns to home ice tomorrow night against Endicott in a CCC matchup. Puck drops at 7 p.m.
