SALEM, Mass. –
Jessie Scott and
Kenady Nevicosi each scored twice to help lead the University of New England women's hockey team to a 6-2 victory over Salem State on Sunday afternoon.
The Nor'easters (7-1-1) staked a two-goal cushion less than 10 minutes into the contest, with
Brianna Jewett opening the scoring on her first tally of the year at the 5:18 mark. Jewett added an assist, along with
Julianne Sheehan, when Scott doubled the margin.
Jacqueline Sindoris chipped in a power-play goal for the Vikings (2-6-0) later in the first to trim the lead to one at intermission, and Kerryann Goode sent in a short-handed goal to the start the second period and tie the game 2-2.
Nevicosi restored the UNE advantage before the midway mark of the second, and Sheehan made it 4-2 in favor of the Nor'easters through 40 minutes. Nevicosi and Scott each tallied a goal in the third.
Julia Benjamin stopped 24 shots on net for the Nor'easters, who notched five of their goals on the power-play. Sarah Plourde made 26 saves for Salem State.
Scott and Sheehan shared the team-high of three points on the day for UNE, while
Tatum Gietl joined Nevicosi and Jewett with a couple.
The Nor'easters will host Saint Michael's College on Friday at the Harold Alfond Forum at 7 p.m.
