GORHAM, Maine – The No.8 University of New England men's ice hockey team overcame a three-goal deficit to take down the University of Southern Maine, 7-4, on Saturday afternoon at the USM Ice Arena.
UNE fell behind early as Adam Withers, Cody Braga, and Michael Taormina put the Huskies (1-5-1) up 3-0 after the first.
The Nor'easters (7-1) controlled the second period, on the way to their sixth straight victory.
Aaron Aragon,
Jeff Eppright, and
Austin Morgan each scored to knot the game at 3-3.
Brady Fleurent put UNE in front for good just 22 seconds into the third period.
Tyler Seltenreich and
Justin Dixson put the game out of reach as the Nor'easters jumped ahead, 6-3. After another goal by Braga, Seltenreich added his second of the game with just over a minute remaining.
UNE was out-shot by a 15-4 margin in the opening period, but finished with a 29-24 advantage.
Ben Churchfield stopped 20 shots on the day to earn the goaltending result. Paul Leger made 22 saves for the home team.
The Nor'easters return to action on Friday, Nov. 30 at Nichols College. Puck drops at 6:40 p.m.
