UNE battles back for 3-3 tie with Mustangs

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – Trailing by two after the first period, the University of New England women's ice hockey team rallied for a 3-3 tie with Morrisville State College in Colonial Hockey Conference (CHC) action on Saturday afternoon.

The Nor'easters (5-1-1, 4-1-1 CHC) countered the early deficit with a couple scores during the second period, as Kenady Nevicosi and Carly Perreault each netted power-play goals.

Maria Dewilde made the score 3-2 in favor of the Mustangs (5-2-1, 3-2-1 CHC) heading into the second intermission. Kyra Yu knotted the game at 3-3 with a power-play goal 1:30 into the third period. UNE was able to keep Morrisville State off the board the rest of the way, despite being out-shot by a 14-5 margin in the remainder of the frame.

Julia Benjamin made a season-best 32 saves on the day for the Nor'easters. Karoline Arvik stopped 19 shots for the Mustangs.

The hosts got out to a 2-0 lead after the first period with goals by Chyne Kennedy and Alexziz Giannamore.

UNE returns home on Tuesday to face Salem State University. Puck drops at the Harold Alfond Forum at 4 p.m.
