MORRISVILLE, N.Y. –
Kenady Nevicosi scored twice to help lead the University of New England women's hockey team to a 3-2 victory over Morrisville State College in Colonial Hockey Conference (CHC) action on Friday night at the Ice Plex.
Nevicosi put the Nor'easters (5-1, 4-1 CHC) in front with an unassisted goal at the 7:45 mark of the first period. UNE maintained a one-score lead until early in the third period, when the first-year made it 2-0, with assists from
Carly Perreault and
Shannon Nadeau.
Maddison Devlin answered for the Mustangs (5-2, 3-2 CHC) just over a minute later to cut the deficit back to one. But
Meagan Accardi found
Alex Mitchell on the power-play with 11:04 to keep the visitors ahead (3-1). Maria Dewilde brought Morrisville back with under nine minutes remaining, however the hosts could not find the equalizer down the stretch.
UNE's
Julia Benjamin made 23 saves against the Mustangs, the reigning league champions. Karoline Arvik stopped 15 shots for Morrisville State.
The teams return to action tomorrow afternoon at 1 p.m.
