STANDISH, Maine -- The University of New England women's swimming squad picked up a pair of victories on Saturday (Nov. 10), defeating Saint Joseph's College of Maine (165-91) and Husson University (152-107) in a double-dual meet at SJC's Harold Alfond Center.
MiKayla Sargent and
Haley Griffin led the Nor'easters (2-2) with two event wins each, while
McKenna Riley chipped in with one and the 200-medley relay team of
Taryn Leach, Sargent,
Kelsey Moulton, and Griffin touched the wall in first place.
Sargent narrowly bested Kassidy Harris of Husson for her two triumphs -- 0.57 clear in the 50-breaststroke (34.94), and 0.84 ahead in the 100-breastsroke (1:18.04). Griffin's 57.96 in the 100-freestyle was 0.24 clear of SJC's Alirose Beauregard, and then her 29.19 in the 50-butterfly was mere fractions (+0.06) in front of HU's Ava Emery.
Emery got the better of Griffin's 1:06.78 during the 100-butterfly (-0.83).
Riley supported UNE with a victorious effort in the 100-backstroke, as her time of 1:05.83 clipped Emilienne English of SJC by 0.18 seconds.
In addition to a win in the 100-individual medley, English (30.06) stretched past Leach (30.57) and Riley (30.75) in the 50-backstroke.
Beauregard contributed two race results (50-freestyle, 200-freestyle) for the Monks, while Erin Aucoin posted a couple of her own (500-freestyle, 1000-freestyle) for the Eagles.
The Nor'easters are off to face Simmons College next Saturday.
