BIDDEFORD, Maine -- Ashley Tango scored twice as No.11 Babson College overcame an early deficit for a 3-1 field hockey win over the University of New England on Tuesday evening (Oct. 9) at UNE Blue Bolt Field.
The nationally-ranked Beavers (11-3) finished with a 17-2 advantage in total shots, but the Nor'easters (7-7) struck first with their initial attempt at the 9:10 mark of the 1st half.
Kersey Boulay blasted home a penalty corner play from
Marge Gardiner and
Brooke Lemerise.
Tango got the visitors back even in the 20th minute, weaving through the defense for a shot into the left side.
Catherine Gilman tipped Babson in front during the 41st minute, redirecting a hit from Maddy Paro inside the right post. Tango added some insurance on a corner in the 59th minute, eluding a defender at the top of the arc for a hard shot into the left side.
Cassidy Riley backstopped the decision for the Beavers without recording a save, but did thwart a near breakaway chance midway through the 2nd half with a sliding steal that preserved the lead.
For UNE, which resumes Commonwealth Coast Conference play on Saturday (12 p.m.) versus Roger Williams University,
Liz Sargent posted five saves.
