BIDDEFORD, Maine -- The University of New England women's swimming team defeated Elms College by a 168-63 margin on Saturday afternoon (Jan. 27) at the Campus Center Pool.

The Nor'easters (7-4) captured 11 of the 12 individual swims during the meet, led by Taryn Leach with three. She won the 50-backstroke (29.43) and the 100-backstroke (1:04.85), and her 29.83 in the 50-butterfly was just 0.06 faster than teammate Kelsey Moulton.

Kayla Burgess, MiKayla Sargent, and Haleigh Kology each added two wins for the home team. Burgess got her pair in the 100-butterfly (1:00.53) and the 200-IM (2:19.95), which included taking down a pool record in the 100 fly (+1.10) that had stood since the 2009-10 season.

Leach, Sargent, Burgess, and Kology also broke the pool record in the 400-medley relay with a time of 4:16.93, nearly 10 seconds better than the previous mark from the 2006-07 season.

On her own, Sargent claimed the 1000-freestyle (11:51.71) and the 50-breaststroke (33.43). Kology topped the respective fields in the 50-freestyle (28.18) and 100-freestyle (1:00.02); Moulton was second in the 100 free, only 0.31 back.

McKenna Riley took the 200-freestyle in 2:11.65 for the Nor'easters, and Jordan Earley recorded first-place in the 100-breaststroke (1:18.95), 0.31 in front of classmate Briana Goud.

For Elms (3-6), Cricket Cavar picked up the lone top result with 5:56.46 in the 500-freestyle.

UNE will now get almost three weeks off to train for the New England Intercollegiate Swimming & Diving Association (NEISDA) Championships, which begin on February 15.
