BIDDEFORD, Maine -- A pair of 1st-period goals sent the University of New England on its way towards a 3-0 New England Hockey Conference (NEHC) women's ice hockey result versus the University of Southern Maine on Saturday afternoon (Jan. 20) at the Harold Alfond Forum.
The Nor'easters (7-6-6, 2-2-4 NEHC) needed to rally from deficits of 2-0 and 3-1 at USM on Friday night to earn a tie with the Huskies (6-12-1, 2-5-1 NEHC), but controlled the rematch right from the start.
Kyra Yu opened the scoring at the 11:47 mark, with an assist from
Kierra Wright. The margin doubled not two minutes later, when
Tatum Gietl found the back of the net with the help of
Jessie Scott and
Julianne Sheehan.
In the final minute of the 3rd, Scott received a pass up the right wing from Yu and made it 3-0.
Caty Flagg denied the nine shots that came her way for the UNE shutout. On the opposite end for Southern Maine, Britney Evangelista logged 44 saves.
The Nor'easters are set to host New England College on Friday (7 p.m.).
