BIDDEFORD, Maine -- Bowdoin College ended a four-game skid with a 3-2 women's ice hockey decision against the University of New England on Tuesday evening (Jan. 16) at the Harold Alfond Forum.

The Polar Bears (7-4-1) established a two-goal cushion early in the 3rd period, but the Nor'easters (6-6-5) used an extra attacker to close the gap on a goal by Jessie Scott with 39 ticks remaining. However, even while keeping the 6-on-5 for the duration, UNE could not find the equalizer before time expired.

Tala Glass accounted for the only scoring in the 1st, notching an unassisted tally at the 18:30 mark to set the visitors on top, 1-0.

UNE knotted things just past the midway point of the contest, as Shannon Upton put home a short-handed goal. Scott forced a turnover in the defensive zone and tapped it ahead for Upton for the breakaway.

Bowdoin regained the advantage in the final minute of the 2nd on a goal by Julie Dachille, with the assist going to Izzi Stoddard, and Brooke Solomon redirected one in to make it 3-1 just 66 seconds into the 3rd, off passes from Brigit Bergin and Caroline Godfrey.

Sophia Lattanzio had 18 saves for the Polar Bears, who had a decided 49-20 margin in shots. For the hosts, Caty Flagg logged 46 stops.

UNE gets back into New England Hockey Conference (NEHC) action this weekend with a home-and-home series versus the University of Southern Maine. The teams will play in Gorham on Friday (7 p.m.) before Saturday's 4 p.m. tilt in Biddeford.
