STANDISH, Maine -- The University of New England women's swimming team captured nine individual races and both relays to dominate Saint Joseph's College of Maine (192-63) and Husson University (177-81) on Sunday (Jan. 14) at the Harold Alfond Center Pool.
Kayla Burgess led the charge with wins in the 200-freestyle (2:09.19) and 100-butterfly (1:04.62), and a role in the successful 200-medley relay and 200-freestyle relay victories.
McKenna Riley starred in the 50-backstroke (31.53) and 100-backstroke (1:06.81), and
Haleigh Kology cruised in the 100-freestyle (1:00.99) and 500-freestyle (5:55.80).
Adding one first-place finish for the Nor'easters (6-3) was
Taryn Leach,
Faith Belleavoine, and
MiKayla Sargent. Leach edged Riley by 0.81 in the 100-IM -- a reversal of the 100 back, when Riley was 0.95 ahead of Leach. Belleavoine claimed the 50-breaststroke (36.14) by 0.41 over
Jordan Earley, and then touched just 0.13 behind Sargent's winning time of 1:16.31 in the 100-breaststroke.
Kelsey Moulton shared in one of the relay results while taking second int he 50-butterfly (30.90), 0.48 seconds off the pace.
Melissa Jakubowski had a runner-up showing in the 50 back, 0.27 after Riley.
UNE will return home to face Merrimack College on Saturday (1 p.m.).
