Scoring Summary
BIDDEFORD, Maine -- The University of New England women's rugby squad held Sacred Heart University off the scoreboard in the opening half and cruised to a 48-17 triumph on Saturday evening (Sep. 30) at Barbara J. Hazard Field.
With the UNE defense pitching a shutout in the early-going, two tries from
Kassidy Towne put the hosts in front for good 15 minutes into the match. The margin was 17-0 at intermission, as
Lara Murnik added a score and
Zoe Adams supplied the conversion.
Though the Pioneers tallied the initial points of the 2nd period to close within 17-7 at the 33:50 mark, the Nor'easters rattled off the next 19 in a span of 6:57 to seize full control (36-7).
Towne led the way for UNE with four tries, while Murnik accounted for a pair and both
Caitlin Paredes and
Kaitlin Drumheller contributed one more. Adam totaled four conversions on the night. Defensively, five players reached double digits in tackles: Murnik (18), Adams (17),
Amanda Sancomb (14), Drumheller (14), and
Sydney Rees (10).
Tessa Buckey recorded all three tries for Sacred Heart.
UNE is set to host Bowdoin College next Saturday (11 a.m.).
