Statistics

DUDLEY, Mass. -- First-half goals by Olivia Madore and Vonde Saunders proved to be enough for the University of New England field hockey team, which defeated Nichols College by a 3-1 margin in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action Friday afternoon (Sep. 29) at Vendetti Field.

The Nor'easters (7-3, 4-1 CCC) have now captured the last 10 meetings against the Bison (3-7, 0-6 CCC).

UNE dominated possession from the opening whistle, and Madore got the visitors on the board in just the 4th minute. The cushion doubled in the 10th minute, when Saunders notched her team-leading ninth goal on the season.

Saunders then registered an assist as the Nor'easters made it 3-0, feeding the first tally of the year for Sydney Liptak in the 39th minute.

Nichols' Erin Jillson broke up the shutout bid in the 57th minute.

Liz Sargent registered one save for UNE, which finished with significant advantages in shots (30-4) and penalty corners (16-2). On the opposite end for the Bison, Brooke Misbach totaled 13 saves.

The Nor'easters will be back at home Sunday (12 p.m.) to entertain Trinity College (Conn.).
