SPRINGFIELD, Mass. --
Olivia Madore finished a pass from
Hannah Buckley just under four minutes into double overtime to give the University of New England a 2-1 victory against Western New England University in a Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) field hockey contest Friday evening (Sep. 22) at Golden Bear Stadium.
After pressuring the Golden Bears for most of the bonus action, the Nor'easters finally found the right combination off a penalty corner play to decide it.
UNE (6-2, 3-1 CCC) remains unbeaten in 18 all-time meetings with Western New England (3-3, 1-2 CCC), although two of the last three road wins (all by 1 goal) have gone upwards of 85 minutes.
Kyla Bartnicki put back a rebound midway through the 1st half to get the visitors on the board.
In the 51st minute, the Golden Bears drew even when Michelle Carlson threaded a shot just inside the right post. Amber Meehan assisted on the equalizer.
Liz Sargent saw the lighter end of a 23-7 shots margin, making two saves for the Nor'easters. Grace Trupe racked up 13 stops for WNEU.
UNE will next visit Colby College on Tuesday (7 p.m.).
