Nationally-ranked Colby eases by Nor'easters in non-league play

WATERVILLE, Maine -- Colby College scored 11 consecutive goals in the first half to open up a large halftime lead on its way to a 19-4 non-conference win over the University of New England in women's lacrosse action Wednesday afternoon (Apr. 5) at Bill Alfond Field.

Ranked 19th in the most recent Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) national poll, Colby improved to 6-3 on the year. UNE now stands a game below the .500 mark at 5-6.

Maddie Hatch, McGara DeWan and Sasha Fritts scored three times apiece to lead a Colby attack that featured 10 players in the scoring column.

Nichole Carvalho tallied twice, and Korinne Bohunsky and Kimberly Gosselin each once to account for the Nor'easters' scoring output.

Colby led 36-15 in shots and 28-15 in ground balls to aid in the win. Goalkeepers Izzy Scribano and Sam Burch each played a half between the pipes and combined for seven stops.

Maritza Nary had 10 saves for the Nor'easters, who received five draw controls and three caused turnovers from Bohunsky. 

UNE will host Salve Regina University on Saturday for a Commonwealth Coast Conference game starting at 1 p.m.
