Nor'easters score nine goals in each half to double-up Southern Maine

BIDDEFORD, Maine -- The University of New England scored nine times in each half en route to an 18-9 win over the University of Southern Maine in non-conference women's lacrosse action Thursday afternoon (Mar. 9) at the Big Blue Turf.

UNE improved its record to 3-1, while the match was the season-opener for the Huskies (0-1).

As has been the case during the early part of the schedule for the Nor'easters, they featured a balanced scoring attack with six players scoring two or more goals. Korinne Bohunsky led all player with four markers, while Jocelyn Davee, Anna Stowell and Nichole Carvalho added three apiece. Brooke Kelleher and Jolena Lampron each scored twice, while Kimberly Gosselin rounded out UNE's total with one. Bohunsky dished out four assists to finish with seven points, and Kelleher set-up three goals.

Ruth Nadeau paced the Huskies with a trio of scores, and Sam Campobasso and Aliza Jordan contributed two apiece.

After the two teams traded goals in the early going, Davee scored with 4:11 elapsed to give UNE the lead for good. The Nor'easters would lead 9-6 at the break before steadily increasing their lead after halftime.

Lampron was all over the field for UNE, totaling five draw controls, five caused turnovers and four ground balls. Bohunsky filled the stat sheet with five ground balls, four draw controls and three caused turnovers to complement her seven-point performance. 

Maritza Nary earned the win in goal for the Nor'easters, registering nine saves.

For Southern Maine, goalkeeper Hala Van Nostrand stopped 12 shots. Heather Everett played a strong all-around match, racking up six ground balls, six draw controls and four caused turnovers.

The Huskies return to action next Monday when they host Thomas College at 4 p.m. The Nor'easters are headed to Florida, where they will take on Vassar College (Tuesday) and Mount Holyoke College (Wednesday) in Port Charlotte.
