BIDDEFORD, Maine -- Endicott College built an 8-0 halftime lead before withstanding a second-half surge by the University of New England for an 18-11 Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) women's lacrosse win Wednesday evening (Mar. 29) at the Big Blue Turf.

Now 2-0 in conference play, Endicott upped its overall mark to 5-3. The Nor'easters slid under the .500 mark to 4-5 (1-1 CCC).

Rookie Jennifer Lacroix had a monster game for the Gulls, racking up a match-high six goals to go with 10 draw controls. Meghan Lennon chipped in five goals and two assists, while Jackie Neilsen and Olivia Larson each scored a pair of markers.

Korinne Bohunsky paced the UNE attack with three goals. Kimberly Gosselin, Jocelyn Davee and Nichole Carvalho tallied two goals apiece.

The first half was all Endicott, with the Gulls hanging up an eight-spot while holding the UNE offense scoreless. Lacroix would score four goals in the first frame, including three consecutive markers over the middle portion of the half to help the visitors build their lead.

Endicott would score the first two goals coming out of halftime before the UNE attack got in gear. Carvalho got the Nor'easters on the scoreboard at the 23:06 in a player-down situation, kicking off a 8-3 run to get UNE within five (13-8) just inside of the 10-minute mark.

After a goal by Endicott's Emily Whitney, UNE cut its deficit to four (14-10) on consecutive tallies from Gosselin. The Gulls would outscore the Nor'easters 4-1 over the final 4:54 to pull away.

Winning goalkeeper Bella Rino had six saves and surrendered just one goal in 36:24 of playing time for Endicott. 

Maritza Nary totaled seven saves for UNE. Jolena Lampron played a strong all-around game for the Nor'easters, piling up eight draw controls to go with two caused turnovers and a pair of ground balls.

UNE is back in action Saturday, heading to Western New England University for a conference match beginning at 1 p.m.
