SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. -- Bri Groves won three individual races to pace Mount Holyoke College in a 142-118 victory against the University of New England women's swimming team on Saturday afternoon (Nov. 4) at the MHC Natatorium.
Groves took the 100 breaststroke, the 200 breaststroke, and the 200 IM for the Lyons (1-1). Both Jacqueline Park and Ashton Bliss added two wins apiece -- Park in the spring freestyle events, and Bliss in the distance freestyles.
Kayla Burgess captured a team-high two victories for the Nor'easters (1-1), topping Bliss in the 200 butterfly (2:24.45) and then MHC's Naomi Brown by 0.03 in the 100 butterfly (1:02.43).
Taryn Leach also placed first in the 100 backstroke (1:08.00), 0.52 in front of teammate
Melissa Jakubowski.
MiKayla Sargent wound up second to Bliss on two occasions, supporting the visitor's total.
The 50 freestyle provided a tight finish, as well, with Park out-touching UNE's
Kelsey Moulton and
McKenna Riley by 0.47 and 0.56, respectively.
The Nor'easters will be back at home next Saturday (1 p.m.) for a meet with both Husson University and Saint Joseph's College of Maine.
